Hip Hop & Commercial

Hip Hop: A fast, fun, exciting style of dance characterized by bounces & rocks to Hip Hop Music! Hip Hop has deep historical & social roots in African American culture, having emerged from Black communities in the 1970’s in New York.

Hip Hop dance is part of an entire culture, including: Hip Hop music, Deejaying, Graffiti, Emceeing, & Breaking!

Kids Hip Hop Video!

Commercial: Commercial dance is what most local dancers think of as ‘hip hop’. However, the majority of the dance being performed/taught/costumes is in fact either street jazz, jazz pop or some form of commercial dance.

In an attempt to reduce cultural appropriation, Xcelerate Dance will not offer classes named Hip Hop unless we have an instructor who can teach the culture, history and nuances of Hip Hop.  What the dancers learn in class & perform will remain largely the same.
